Many people find themselves feeling lost, struggling with low self-esteem, difficulties in relationships, or carrying emotional wounds and trauma. You may feel stuck in life, angry at the world, anxious or frustrated, and not really understand why.
Talking with me offers you the opportunity to explore why you feel the way you do and what you are truly feeling and thinking – beyond the mask you may wear for the world.
I offer a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space where you can begin to discover your authentic self. In counselling, you are free to express yourself honestly. You may cry, feel angry, rant about the world, swear, or show vulnerability. All of your feelings are welcome here, without fear of judgement.
Understanding Our Patterns
From the moment a baby cries to be fed or comforted, we begin adapting our behaviour in order to get our needs met and survive. As we grow, we continue adapting to the expectations of our families, caregivers, schools, and society.
The responses we receive shape our beliefs about ourselves and the world. These experiences can either build our self-esteem or damage it. Over time, they can create a “life script” – unconscious beliefs about how we are supposed to think, feel, and behave.
Our role within the family during childhood can unconsciously stay with us into adulthood. For example, a child who became the peacekeeper or people-pleaser may continue to put everyone else’s needs first while neglecting their own wants, needs, and dreams.
Many of these learned patterns may once have helped us cope, but they are no longer useful or healthy in adult life.
Unprocessed wounds and trauma can remain stored in our bodies and minds. When they remain unconscious, they can affect our lives in many ways, leading to:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Low self-esteem
- People-pleasing
- Difficult or unhealthy relationships
How can we move forward if we are unaware of these patterns?
How can we heal if the trauma remains buried in the unconscious?
How Counselling Can Help
Counselling gives you the opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings about anything and everything in a safe and supportive environment.
My role is to support you emotionally as you explore your inner world. Together we can gently uncover unhelpful patterns of behaviour, identify emotional wounds, and begin the healing process.
Through this journey, you may begin to:
- Understand yourself more deeply
- Feel freer and more authentic
- Develop healthier relationships
- Improve your self-esteem
- Move forward with greater happiness and clarity
Trauma and Life Events
If you have experienced a trauma – such as a miscarriage, bereavement, divorce, accident, or another major life event – talking with someone outside of your personal circle can be incredibly helpful.
Speaking with a counsellor gives you space to process your true thoughts and feelings without worrying about upsetting family members, friends, or colleagues.
You can speak openly, knowing that:
- You do not need to protect my feelings
- I will not judge you
- Nothing you say will shock me
I have experienced many of life’s traumas myself, which allows me to listen with empathy, compassion, and genuine understanding.
You do not have to face these experiences alone.
Relationship Counselling
Many of the patterns we develop in childhood continue into our adult relationships without us even realising it. If we learned to be the peacekeeper, the people-pleaser, or the one who keeps quiet to avoid conflict, these roles can shape how we relate to partners later in life. This can lead to difficulties with communication, boundaries, trust, or feeling unheard or unvalued. Relationship counselling offers a safe space to explore these patterns, understand how they developed, and begin to create healthier ways of connecting so that your relationships can feel more balanced, honest and fulfilling.
Anxiety, Stress and Depression
Unprocessed experiences, emotional wounds, and long-held patterns of behaviour can often sit beneath feelings of anxiety, stress, and depression. When we have learned to ignore our own needs, suppress emotions, or constantly meet the expectations of others, the pressure can build internally over time. This can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure why we feel the way we do. Counselling provides a supportive space to gently explore what may be behind these feelings, helping you understand yourself more deeply and begin to develop healthier ways of coping, thinking, and responding to life.
